Wizz Air Opens Its Sibiu Base
Wizz Air, the largest low-cost airline in Central and Eastern Europe, and Romania’s largest airline today celebrates the major milestone of opening its seventh Romanian base in Sibiu and starting four new routes from Sibiu to Nuremberg, Madrid, Milan Bergamo and Munich Memmingen.
With the four new flights starting over the weekend, WIZZ, deploying a robust Airbus A320 aircraft to the newest WIZZ base represents a further €98 million*** investment by WIZZ in the country and brings up the number of routes operated from Sibiu International Airport to six.
The first flight of Wizz Air took off from Bucharest in 2007 and since then the airline is continuously growing its low-fare network in Romania, currently offering 119 routes to 18 countries from nine Romanian airports. The operations of WIZZ doesn’t only provide affordable access between Romania and the rest of Europe, but also stimulate the local job market in aviation and tourism sectors. Over 600 Wizz Air colleagues are working in Romania, looking forward to welcoming passengers on board WIZZ’s Romanian flights, which this year will support more than 3,300 jobs in associated industries throughout the country**.
Demonstrating WIZZ’s dedication to its Romanian customers the airline is continuously investing in its Romanian operations and will grow its fleet in the country to 20 aircraft by the end of 2016, including 4 of the ultra-efficient brand new 230-seat Airbus A321.
WIZZ is commencing its new services from Sibiu to Nuremberg on 19 August with 3 weekly flights, to Milan Bergamo and Madrid on 20 August and to Munich Memmingen on 21 August with 2 weekly services each. On 19 August Wizz Air also starts operating the second route from its ninth Romanian airport, Suceava, to London Luton with four weekly frequencies.
